Ashton Gate Stadium, home to Bristol City FC and Bristol Bears, sits just under two miles from the city centre at Bristol BS3 2EJ. Walking from Temple Meads takes about 50 minutes, the M2 MetroBus stops just 9 minutes' walk from the ground, and the stadium's own Winterstoke Road car park takes advance bookings through YourParkingSpace.co.uk. Street parking around the ground is severely limited on matchday, so plan your route rather than hoping for a space nearby.
Walking and cycling to Ashton Gate
Walking is the cheapest and often quickest option once you factor in matchday traffic. Official walking times from the stadium's own travel page are:
| From | Walking time |
|---|---|
| Bristol Temple Meads | 50 minutes |
| Parson Street station | 15 minutes |
| Clifton Village | 30 minutes |
| Bristol Harbourside / city centre | 35 minutes |
If you'd rather cycle, the stadium has 96 bike racks and a free-to-use bike pump on site, with dedicated cycle paths connecting much of the city. Electric scooters are not allowed on-site and have to be parked away from entrances and pavements; Dott is the only e-scooter operator authorised to operate in Bristol.
Getting there by train
The two closest stations are:
- Parson Street: a 15-minute walk from the stadium, around 5 minutes by train from Temple Meads. It does not have step-free access.
- Bristol Temple Meads: the city's mainline station, with direct services across the UK including Wales and Scotland, but it's a 50-minute walk, so most people combine it with a bus for the final leg.
Getting there by bus
Ashton Gate is served by First Bus and the M2 MetroBus route, which stops around 9 minutes' walk from the stadium and also runs from the Long Ashton Park & Ride into the city centre, making it a useful option if you'd rather not drive all the way in. Local route 24 (Southmead Hospital to Ashton Gate) runs close to the ground, and regional routes including the X1 (Weston-super-Mare), X4 (Portishead), X6/X7 (Clevedon) and X9 (Nailsea) pass through Bristol and can be combined with a short local hop. Use the TravelWest Journey Planner to check exact stops and times for your specific fixture and kick-off.
Parking at Ashton Gate
The stadium's main car park, the Winterstoke Road Car Park (accessed from Wedlock Way/Winterstoke Road), is a pay-and-display lot operated by YourParkingSpace, and spaces can and should be booked in advance at yourparkingspace.co.uk rather than turning up on the day. A second car park on Ashton Road is also available, and both have cashless, card-only payment units on site. Charges apply for all events unless the stadium says otherwise, and exact pricing depends on the fixture, so check the current rate when you book rather than relying on a flat figure.
Street parking immediately around the stadium is severely limited and the stadium itself advises visitors to use public transport instead; please also respect residents' driveways and any local parking restrictions, which are enforced more tightly on matchdays.
If the official car parks are full or sold out, Ashton Gate Parking on Clanage Road (postcode BS3 2JX) is a privately run lot about 7 to 10 minutes' walk from the stadium, with pre-paid online booking and access via the A369, outside Bristol's Clean Air Zone. It's a separate operator from the stadium's own car parks, and spaces here sell out for popular fixtures too, so book ahead if you're relying on it.
Driving in: the Clean Air Zone
Central Bristol, including many of the roads around Ashton Gate, sits inside Bristol's Clean Air Zone (CAZ). Non-compliant vehicles are charged between £9 and £100 a day to drive through it, so check your vehicle against the compliance checker at cleanairforbristol.org/caz before you set off, especially if you're driving in from outside the city. If you're coming from the M5, leave at junction 18 and follow the Portway (A4) towards Bristol Airport/Taunton (A38), crossing the swing bridge on Brunel Way into Winterstoke Road.
Taxis and ride-hailing
If you'd rather not deal with parking at all, a licensed taxi or ride-hailing app is often the simplest option for a short hop to or from the ground, particularly after an evening fixture when buses are busier and less frequent. See our guide to Bristol's taxi companies for a comparison of local firms, or check our guide to getting around Bristol without a car for buses, ferries and walking routes beyond matchday.
For wider context on driving into the city, our Bristol parking guide and Bristol Park & Ride guide cover options beyond the stadium's own car parks, which is useful if you're combining the match with another trip into the centre.
